Tell us about the character and his fandom: Detective Conan is a Japanese detective manga by Gosho Aoyama. The series follows the adventures of seventeen year old Kudo Shinichi, a high-school prodigy and detective who works frequently with the police department, helping to solve crimes which the police could not. Shinichi is the son of Kudo Yusaku, a mystery writer, and Kudo Yukiko, a retired actress. He is extremely intelligent, and even from a young age, was very intuitive and observant. Due to the influence of his father, and the general lax environment at home, he has long been an incessant and persistent reader, especially of mystery novels.

In addition to his intelligence, Shinichi is also a skilled soccer player. He speaks both Japanese and English, and has been revealed to have perfect pitch despite his inability to sing.

At the beginning of the series, Shinichi brings his friend Ran to Tropical Land, a local theme park, to celebrate her karate championship victory. As they are leaving, Shinichi witnesses a suspicious exchange between two men in a secluded area outside the park. He leaves Ran behind and goes to investigate, but fails to notice a third man who knocks him out. Two of the men, Gin and Vodka, are members of the crime syindicate known as the Black Organization. They force Shinichi to take an experimental poison known as APTX 4869, but due to a then unknown side-effect the drug transforms him into a child rather than killing him, after the men leave him for dead.

He is found later by police, who ask the 'little boy' if he's all right. Confused and scared, Shinichi goes back to his house and runs into his next door neighbor, Professor Agasa who warns Shinichi that his identity must be kept secret, else the Black Organization learn that he is still alive.

Shinichi comes up with the alias Edogawa Conan and pretends to be a distant relative of Professor Agasa, who places Conan in Ran's care. Ran's father is Mouri Kogoro, a former police officer and the incompetent owner of a detective agency. In order to discover more about the Black Organization, Conan invites himself along on Kogoro's cases, secretly helping to solve them.

Throughout the series Conan uses many gadgets made by Professor Agasa to help him solve cases. Among the gadgets are a voice changing bow tie, which allows him to imitate nearly any person's voice, and a wrist watch capable of shooting a small tranquilizer dart. With these Conan is able to put Kogoro to sleep so that he can solve the case using Kogoro's voice. In order to help capture criminals Agasa also created special shoes that allow Conan to enhance his kicking power to super human levels, and the Detective Boys badges which acts as a wireless communicator and tracker.

Sample Tag: Conan stumbled, hissing in pain as his knees and elbows came into painful contact with the carpeting that had materialized beneath him. The cloudy light filtering through the plate glass windows of the office he found himself in was a sharp contrast to the sunny school field he and his friends had been playing soccer in.

The ball had bounced off the goal post, causing Conan to say something that a seven year old really shouldn't, and which would probably get him into trouble with Ran later. Ayumi-chan had gasped, covering her mouth with her hands and then...

And then nothing. Everything had gone white for what seemed like just a moment. But logically it must have been longer, if the location and the weather were any indication. Even from here he could see that the skyline outside the window as not Beika, or Osaka, or any other place he'd ever been in Japan.

There was a letter on the floor next to where he had fallen with his name printed neatly on the front of the white envelope. Conan picked it up and went over to the window to look out, blowing on his rug-burned hands.

New York, He was in New York. There was no mistaking the view for anywhere else, he'd been here a few times as a child, a twenty plus hour plane trip that he wasn't keen on ever taking again. How the hell had he gone from Teitan Elementary to New York City in what had seemed like less than a minute?

He ripped open the letter, and skimmed the contents. Conan swore, using the word that had made Ayumi-chan gasp again. Was this some sort of joke?
